 Hossam Ramzy
is a world renowned percussionist,
composer, arranger, producer and recording artist. His
musical training started at the early age of 3 in his
home country of Egypt when he was given a Tabla by his
family. Today, he is considered the world and the best
Arabic percussionist and one of the most exciting
ambassadors of Arabic Music to the West. The distinctive
sound of his Arabic & North African string
arrangements, his percussion and exciting rhythms have
caught the attention of audiences around the globe and
the imagination of musicians such as Peter Gabriel, Jimmy
Page & Robert Plant of Les Zepplin, Pavarotti, Cheb
Khaled, Tarkan, Rachid Taha, Faudel, the Gypsy Kings Phil
Thorton as well as many others with whom he has
collaborated on different musical projects and live
shows. His discography includes 18 Albums, which he
recorded with ARC Music of England (to date, he is ARC's
top selling artist) featuring some of the most beautiful
bellydance music that has been recorded and many
collaborations on Albums such as Peter Gabriel's
soundtrack to the Last Temptation Of Christ, Loreena
Mckennitt s Book of Secrets, Khaled/Taha/Faudel's 1, 2,
3, Soleil, Jay Z's Vol. 3, Life and Times of S. Carte,
Gypsy Kings' Compas and many others.
Some of the project on which he is currently working are
another Album with Phil Thorton, another Bellydance Album
of all new and original compositions, two musical pieces
for the, soon to be premiered, Broadway musical, The
Thief of Baghdad and music for the upcoming Olympics.
Hossam will also be the executive producer for Austin's
own, Zein Al-Jundi's s first CD to be recorded in Cairo,
Egypt and released in November of 2004 on ARC music.
In addition to all his musical accomplishments and master
skills, Hossam is a leading authority and a scholar on
Arabic dance (aka Bellydance); he has compiled and
produced the video series "The Stars of Egypt"
TM, which is in a way an encyclopedia of the dance form.
 Serena Ramzy was born in Sao Paulo Brazil in a
community fully integrated with Middle Eastern Culture.
She started to dance at the age of 8 years of age and has
trained in Ballet, Modern Dance and, of course, the
Brazilian Samba. She became a professional bellydancer at
the age of 15 after studying with the leading Egyptian
dance teachers in Brazil and it was not long before she
became the darling (and youngest) dancers in Brazil being
featured in many functions.
Since her meeting Hossam Ramzy (and getting married to
him in 1997), Serena and Hossam have become the dynamic
duo Of Egyptian/Arabic dance and have been touring the
world, dancing, performing and teaching together to reach
Audience and students from the five continents.
Hossam & Serena have spearheaded the very first
national dance performance by women in the history of the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabian, commissioned by the tip
authority of the country to celebrate the 100th
anniversary of their Independence day.
We are so thrilled and very much honored to be the entity
behind bringing this tour to Austin for many different
reasons.....one of which is that we never hesitate when I
get the opportunity to bring it to the Austin community
my Arabic heritage (including its music and dance) at its
best and Hossam and Serena are a fantastic representation
of that.....this is a chance for all of us to learn from
one of the masters of Arab rhythm and dance.....

a live drummer. A dance choreography by Serena will be taught to

This is Video/DVD lecture which Hossam will
conduct on the various styles of the great dancers of
Egypt, like Naima Akef, Samya Gamal, Taheyya Karioka,
Katie, Nabawia Mostapha and many more. Hossam will
be using clips from the video series, "The Stars Of
Egypt" TM, which he compiled and co-produced.
The series is a collection of performances by the great
dancers of Egypt from the era of the 40s, 50s & 60s
form different Egyptian films and otherwise.....this era
is comsidered to be the golden era of Bellydance in Egypt
and otherwise.
